How to choose a route

The right route is the one that works for your passport and your dates, not simply the nearest border. Before choosing, check three things:

  1. Can you enter the neighbouring country? Check whether your nationality is visa-exempt there, can get a visa on arrival or e-visa at that specific border checkpoint, or needs a visa in advance.
  2. Can you come back through the Vietnamese gate on that route? If you are returning on a Vietnam e-visa, the gate must be on the Government's list of ports that accept e-visas.
  3. Does the timing fit your permitted stay? Leave a margin before your stay ends in case of delays at the border or with your visa application.
