Checklist

Vietnam Visa Run Checklist

Work through this list a week or more before your trip. Most problems at the border start with something that could have been spotted at home.

  • Passport

Valid for the whole trip and beyond. Many countries ask for at least six months of validity and blank pages. Check both remain true after your trip.

  • Your current Vietnam visa or entry stamp

Know the exact date your current permitted stay ends. That date, not the visa's printed expiry, decides your deadline.

  • The visa you will use to come back

Most travellers use a Vietnam e-visa that lists Moc Bai as the entry gate. Book it with us, or apply yourself on evisa.gov.vn and check every detail.

  • Your Cambodian visa

Book a Cambodia e-visa with us before the trip, or bring USD 35 (about VND 1,100,000) to get the visa at the border. Some nationalities are visa-exempt.

  • Route-specific items

Your route page lists anything extra, such as printed copies, passport photos or cash in a particular currency.

The checklist in detail

Passport

  • Validity: check the minimum required by every country you'll enter. Many ask for at least six months remaining.
  • Blank pages: make sure there is room for new stamps on both sides.
  • Condition: a damaged passport can be refused. Replace it before the trip if in doubt.
  • Same passport as your visa: your e-visa must match the passport you travel on.

Your dates

  • Find the end date of your current permitted stay on your entry stamp or e-visa details.
  • Plan to travel with a margin before that date, not on the last day.
  • If you have already overstayed, contact us before booking.

The visa you'll use to return to Vietnam

  • Check whether your nationality is visa-exempt for Vietnam and for how long. If not, you need a visa.
  • Book it with one of our visa packages, or apply yourself on the official portal evisa.gov.vn.
  • Check the validity dates, entry type (single or multiple) and your personal details on the approved e-visa.
  • Check the border gate you'll use to return is on the list of gates that accept e-visas.
  • Print a copy and keep a copy on your phone.

The neighbouring country

  • Check the entry rules for your nationality on that country's official government source.
  • If you need an e-visa, confirm it's accepted at the specific land checkpoint on your route.
  • Bring any supporting items that country asks for, such as passport photos or proof of onward travel.

On the day

  • Passport and printed visa documents, in a bag you keep with you.
  • Cash for any fees that must be paid at the border, in the currency accepted there.
  • A charged phone with our contact number saved.
  • Water and anything personal you need for the journey time listed on your route.

Your route page lists anything extra that applies to that route. See all routes.
