Vietnam Visa Run: Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers, including the ones that aren't what people hope to hear. If your question isn't here, ask us.

Planning a visa run

What is a visa run?

A visa run is a short trip out of Vietnam and back in, usually across a nearby land border, so that you can enter again on a new visa or a new visa-exempt stay. It is a normal international exit and a normal new entry. Nothing about it is automatic: the border officer decides on entry each time.

Which routes do you run?

Our main route is Ho Chi Minh City to Moc Bai and back by private car, with an afternoon and an early-morning departure every day. We can also book flights for a fly-out visa run. Details are on the routes page.

Immigration and re-entry

Can you guarantee I will be allowed back into Vietnam?

No. Nobody outside the Vietnamese authorities can. We organise the trip, explain the procedure and check your paperwork with you before departure, but the decision to admit you is made by the border officer at the time you arrive. Be wary of anyone who promises otherwise.

What is the difference between my visa's validity and my permitted stay?

Your visa shows the period in which you may enter or stay. The permitted stay is the period the border officer grants when you enter. The date that matters for leaving Vietnam on time is your permitted stay. Check your e-visa details and entry stamp, and ask us if the two dates confuse you.

I have overstayed or am about to. Can I still do a visa run?

Please contact us before you book. Overstays are handled at the exit counter and can involve fines and extra checks, and they may affect future entries. Your situation needs individual advice, and a visa run may not be the right answer.

Is a visa run legal?

Leaving the country and entering again on a valid visa or visa exemption is a normal cross-border trip. What is not allowed is staying beyond your permitted stay, or using a visa for a purpose it does not cover, such as working on a tourist visa. If your real purpose is long-term work or residence, ask about the right visa or permit instead.

Do the rules depend on my nationality?

Yes, strongly. Visa exemptions, e-visa eligibility and visa-on-arrival options differ by passport, both for Vietnam and for the neighbouring country. Tell us your nationality when you inquire, and check the official sources listed on this page.

Documents

Do I need my new Vietnam e-visa before the trip?

Not if we handle it for you. With our visa packages we take care of the Vietnam e-visa application; on the day, you send us a photo of your exit stamp and wait briefly on the Cambodian side while we track the approval, then you re-enter Vietnam. If you prefer to apply yourself, use the official portal evisa.gov.vn and choose Moc Bai as the entry gate. Either way, approval and its timing are decided by the Vietnam Immigration Department.

What documents do I need to bring?

At minimum: your passport, the visa or approval you will use to come back into Vietnam, and whatever the neighbouring country requires for your nationality. The full list, with route-specific items, is on the visa run checklist.

Why don't you ask for my passport scan on the inquiry form?

We don't need it to recommend a route or give a price, and a general web form is not the right place for identity documents. If a scan is needed later, for example to help with a visa application, we will tell you why and how it will be handled.

How long must my passport be valid?

Many countries require at least six months of passport validity on entry and one or more blank pages. Check the requirement for every country you will enter on this trip, including Vietnam on your way back.

Prices and booking

How much does a visa run cost?

It depends on the route, whether the trip is shared or private and how many people travel. Our current prices and exactly what they cover are on the pricing page. Each route states whether government visa fees are included.

How do I book?

Send the inquiry form or message us on WhatsApp with your nationality, preferred date and number of travellers. We reply with a suitable route and a written plan. Your place is confirmed once you accept the plan in writing and complete any deposit described on the pricing page.

Can I cancel or change my date?

Yes. The rules and any refund amounts are set out in our cancellation policy. Tell us as early as you can.

Can a group or family book together?

Yes. Put the number of travellers on the inquiry form. Each person needs their own documents, and requirements can differ between members of the same group if they hold different passports.

Still have a question?

Send your dates and nationality. We reply within 1 hour with a route, a written plan and the price.
